“displace_pivot” are two kinetic light installations. It is an experiment of digital visuals in analog forms. The machines look like flat digital screens from far, but audience can discover the actual physical layers when getting closer.
We perceive motion by switching between visual and kinesthetic information, and yet those two sensory modes not always agree with one another. “displace_pivot” plays with our motion perception, experimenting with the idea of a visual point of reference or orientation in an isolated container, with minimal visual elements as reference points. These devices use electronics and mechanics to control the layers of moving patterns, creating an abstract and self-enclosed space of lines and dynamic grid patterns isolated from the external environment.
